HAERE MAI KI WHANGANUI

This Wellington Anniversary Weekend will see over 30 vintage themed events and attractions take place in and around beautiful Whanganui. You can expect to be entertained and entranced by a wide variety of events, including vintage markets, tours, rides, theatre, live music and performance, workshops, art, food, fashion, sporting events and much more to entertain all ages.

Vintage attire is very much encouraged over the weekend. You can expect to see anything from the classic 1920’s look, to the vibrant 80’s and anything in between and beyond.

Where it started

The inaugural Whanganui Vintage Weekend was held in 2012. The Vintage Car Club was hosting a week long rally based at the Whanganui Racecourse, attracting 35,000 vintage car enthusiasts from around New Zealand. Whanganui Vintage Weekend was staged to provide extra entertainment and promote Whanganui as a great place to visit and live.

Events included the Caboodle, the Retro Market & the Riverside Shindig. Some of these traditional events are still features of the programme along with the supporting events and attractions run by the community.

The organisers

In 2013, the Whanganui Vintage Weekend Trust was formed. The role of the Trust is to grow the event and Whanganui Vintage Weekend brand for the benefit of the Whanganui community.
